Course Objective - To demonstrate knowledge of the serving of alcohol in such a manner that customers will not do harm to themselves or others after drinking.  Topics covered include alcohol law and the servers responsibility, recognizing and preventing intoxication, checking identification for minors, handling difficult situations with intoxicated guests, when to call in the police and evaluating real-world scenarios.  Most jurisdictions require some degree of training in this area in order to provide alcohol for sale.   

I. Course Goal To provide operators with a certification that allows them to open and operate venues which serve alcohol.  To give those in the business of serving alcohol the tolls needed to do so while protective their customers and their company through a thorough knowledge of how alcohol affects people, how to count drinks properly, and the required knowledge of applicable state and local laws.     

II.  Educational Objectives
1. Any student upon successful completion of the comprehensive certification examination will meet the criteria for the Certification program and  receive a passing grade in this course.  

III.  Behavioral Objectives – the student should be able to:
1. Identify criminal and civil liability relating to the sale and service of alcohol.
2. Recognize the impact of employee violations on the owner and the establishment.
3. Identify laws restricting alcohol service.
4. Identify alcohol’s path through the body and the liver’s role in breaking down alcohol.
5. Identify factors that affect a guest’s Blood Alcohol Content.
6.  Identify drinks that contain the same amount of alcohol and be able to count drinks
7.  Identify the physical and behavioral signs of intoxication.
8.  Identify methods for preventing guests from becoming intoxicated.
9.  Identify acceptable and valid forms of valid ID, including minors.
10.  Identify the procedures for stopping alcohol service to a guest.
11.  Identify the procedures for handling intoxicated guests
