The certification examinations can be taken with or without a class, though most prefer a class.  It depends on your level of prior knowledge, your ability to just read a book and pass a test, and your desire to learn the most you can, which usually happens better in a classroom environment.

You Tube videos provide all the refresher training, similar to what is presented in the classroom.  All tests are available online, thus there is no reason to travel to a class if you learn well at home.
